Following a comprehensive public tender process, Camden Council has appointed BlueFit as the new operator of the Council’s Aquatic and Leisure Centres commencing 1 July 2024.

About BlueFit 

BlueFit is a national leisure management partner of Local Governments, which operates approximately 63 facilities across Australia.

Founded in 2007 by owner and Chief Executive Officer Todd McHardy, BlueFit has worked in partnership with Local Government, Private Enterprise, and various partners delivering sport, recreation, and aquatic programs and services nationwide.

BlueFit now operates a range of swim schools and leisure facilities across Australia, providing valuable programs, services, and membership opportunities which include swimming lessons for more than 40,000 students weekly.

During this transition, Camden Council, the Y NSW and BlueFit are committed to keeping you, our valued members, informed every step of the way. Rest assured, it will be ‘business as usual’ throughout the transition period.

General FAQ’s

We understand that during times of change, there will be many questions raised by members and stakeholders of the Camden Aquatic & Leisure Facilities. We hope that viewing our Frequently Asked Questions below will answer any of the questions or concerns you have.

Who is BlueFit

BlueFit is part of the BlueFit Group (www.bluefit.com.au)

Founded in 2007 by owner and Chief Executive Officer Todd Mchardy, BlueFit has worked in partnership with Local Government, Private Enterprise and various partners delivering sport, recreation and aquatic programs and services nationwide.

Operating more than 63 facilities nationwide, BlueFit is committed to Inspiring Community Activity in the communities we serve. In fact, this underpins everything we do in our facilities and swim schools.

Why is BlueFit taking over the management of Camden Council’s Aquatic & Leisure Centres?

Following a comprehensive public tender process, Camden Council has appointed BlueFit as the new operator of the Council’s Aquatic and Leisure Centres commencing 1 July 2024.

What happens to the staff currently working at the Centres?

Camden Council, the Y NSW, and BlueFit are working closely together during the transition period to ensure all employees are kept fully informed to enable staff to continue their employment at the Centre, under the management of BlueFit, or at an alternative Y NSW center. This is dependent on the preferences of individual staff members.

BlueFit anticipates a high level of retention of the existing staff, so you expect to see the same friendly faces at the Centres following the change in management.

What does the change in management mean for the local community?

From 1 July 2024, BlueFit will be the new operator of Camden Council’s Leisure & Aquatic Facilities. The Centres will continue to operate ‘business as usual’ and all current employees will continue with their current employment until the change in management.

Once BlueFit commences management of Camden’s Aquatic & Leisure Facilities, small changes will be made to any branding, program structure, and systems.

The swimming lesson program will transfer to the BlueFit Swimming program and other program changes will be implemented at the Centres.

Will the opening hours change?

The operating hours will remain the same.

Will the website change?

Yes, the new website is under construction. The existing website will be directed to the Centre’s new website from 1 July 2024.

Will there be a fee increase on 1 July 2024?

Yes. The 2024/2025 Fees & Charges will be considered by the Council as part of the annual budget process. The annual fee increase will be effective from 1 July 2024. Further information regarding fees is available on Camden Council’s website

Member & Visit Pass FAQ’s

What will happen to my membership?

Your membership will remain active at the time of transition to BlueFit

Do I need a new membership card?

BlueFit is reviewing the membership access system used by the Y NSW. You will likely be issued with a new access card at transition. If you have any access issues after the transition, please see a customer service officer to support you.

What will happen to my direct debit membership payments?

We expect minimal impact on members’ direct debits. More details will be shared with members as the change in management approaches.

Do I need to sign a new contract?

Members are not required to sign a new contract unless a change of membership is processed, however over time BlueFit may look to implement slight terms and conditions changes and have this signed off individually.

Do the terms and conditions of membership remain the same?

Conditions of membership relating to payments and access permissions remain the same and BlueFit will honor the terms and conditions of your existing membership.

What will happen if I have a paid in full membership or multi-visit pass?

Any paid in full / upfront memberships and multi-visit passes will be honored as per the conditions upon purchase and expiry dates at the time of change in management.

What will happen to my visit passes?

Visit pass information and unused visit passes will be transferred from the Y NSW to BlueFit at transition. Visit pass holders may continue to use visit passes after 1 July 2024.

Will the group fitness timetable change?

The group fitness timetable will continue as normal. BlueFit will work closely with the Y NSW employees and instructors to ensure the group fitness timetable caters to existing and new members’ needs, including arranging new instructors should any of the existing instructors seek alternative employment.

Y NSW-branded group fitness programs will not be continued; however, BlueFit is committed to continuing as far as practicable all programs and services at the Centre, with an equivalent replacement program.

Can I continue to book group fitness classes online?

Yes. BlueFit operates a similar online booking system to the Y NSW. Members will receive further information close to the change in management.

Can I continue to use my Fitness Passport membership?
Will there be a fee increase on 1 July 2024?

Yes. Each year Council considers the fees and charges as part of the budget process. The annual fee increase will be effective from 1 July 2024. Member debit payments will increase on 12 July 2024 in line with the direct debit. Further information regarding fees is available on Camden Council’s website.

Swim School & General Programs FAQ’s

What will happen to my children's swimming lessons?

We are working with Camden Council and the Y NSW to transfer all learn to swim enrolments to the BlueFit Swimming program.

Will my class time and instructor stay the same?

Mostly, yes. BlueFit is seeking to offer employment to all current instructors and is working towards keeping all the same instructors at the same times.

Will students need to be reassessed?

No. While the change in management will see the BlueFit Swimming program introduced, the skills and levels that students are learning now are transferable between the programs meaning there is no need for reassessments.

Will there be an online booking system so I can make bookings, check my children's progress and book make-up lessons?

Yes, BlueFit’s parent portal provides the ability for parents to complete a range of business interactions with us online while keeping an eye on their children’s progress in the BlueFit Swimming program.

Do I need a new access card?

What will happen to my learn to swim direct debit membership payments?

We expect minimal impact on swim school direct debits. More details will be shared with members as the change in management approaches

What happens to my make-up lessons with the Y NSW?

Make-up lessons are managed by the Y NSW in line with the conditions of membership. We understand that families will receive information relating to make-up lessons from the Y NSW.

What happens to the credits on my family account with the Y NSW?

Family credits are managed by the Y NSW in line with the conditions of membership. Customers may be entitled to a refund for services paid and not rendered and can be applied for at mtannan.customerenquiry@ymcansw.org.au by 30 June 2024.

Will I still be able to use my Active Kids Vouchers for Swimming Lessons?

We understand that the Y NSW will no longer accept Active Kids and First Lap vouchers after 27 May 2024. For any customers unable to claim their vouchers, BlueFit can accept the vouchers. Further information is available by clicking here

Will there be a fee increase on 1 July 2024?

What will happen to the Squad Swimming program?

The squad swimming program will continue as normal. BlueFit will work closely with the coaches and swim club to ensure the program continues to serve the local community and elite swimmers.

What will happen to Y NSW Programs and other initiatives?

BlueFit will work closely with all user groups, stakeholders, and members who have existing agreements with the Y NSW for facility user and hire agreements. Y NSW-branded programs will not be continued however, BlueFit is fully committed to continuing as far as practicable all programs and services at the Centre, with a replacement program.

What about social sports, will any competition continue to operate?

BlueFit will work closely with the Y NSW to ensure the successful completion of the current social sporting season. Further information about the competition will be provided as part of the transition process to participating teams.

Creche

Childcare services will continue to be provided. You may be required to provide some additional information to ensure BlueFit has the correct information about your children. Further information will be issued to customers closer to the transition date.

I have a booking at the Centre after 1 July 2024, will this booking still be honoured?

Yes, all existing bookings will be honoured. Further information will be provided to hirers closer to the transition date.
